What this page is (and isn’t)
Every day people search variants of “is the airplane game haram?” (لعبة الطيارة حرام أم حلال). This page surveys what established fatwa institutions have already published. We are a casino information site — we do not issue religious rulings, and we are not qualified to. We can, however, report the scholarly consensus accurately, because pretending the question doesn’t exist would be dishonest.
The consensus is not ambiguous
On real-money games of chance, the major fatwa bodies are unanimous:
- Qimar/maysir (gambling) is prohibited in Islam by explicit Quranic text (Al-Ma’idah 90–91). This covers casino games, betting, and any game where money is staked on an uncertain outcome.
- Jordan’s General Iftaa Department (aliftaa.jo) has published fatwas classifying gambling in all its forms as haram, including electronic forms.
- IslamWeb (fatwas 220303, 311689 and others) applies the same ruling to earning money from electronic games when payment is staked on chance: the defining test is whether you pay to possibly win money — if yes, it is qimar regardless of the app’s branding.
- Games like Aviator fail that test squarely: you stake money on a random outcome. The “skill” of cashing out does not change the underlying chance mechanism (see how the game actually works).
Where scholars distinguish: skill-based competitions with prizes funded by a third party (not the players’ stakes) are treated differently by many institutions. That distinction does not apply to casino games, where the prize pool is the players’ losses.
The law points the same direction
Jordanian law does not use religious framing, but its Penal Code treats gambling as an offence for the same core reason — money staked on chance (the legal picture). A Jordanian reader asking “is it haram?” and one asking “is it legal?” get, in practice, aligned answers.
If you gamble anyway
JordanSino documents access honestly for adults who have made their own choice. If that’s you, then at minimum:
- Treat it strictly as paid entertainment, never as income — the math guarantees loss over time (why).
- Set limits before playing, not after losing. Responsible gambling resources.
- If it’s causing guilt, secrecy, or debt — those are signs to stop, whatever your framework.
